According to the Health and Safety Executive falls from height are the largest cause of workplace injury and fatality in the UK.

According to the Work at Height Regulations 2005, working at 'height' applies to any situation from standing on a chair to change a lightbulb to being hundreds of meters off the ground cleaning the windows of a tower block.

Many falls are caused because safe access has not been provided for the task required at height. In the UK all employers are required to make risk assessments and correctly manage the risk of all operations requiring work to be carried out at height. If they fail in their duty of care to their employees, they can be held liaible and prosecuted.

Employers should eliminate the risk of falling by provide training and safety equipment to those employees who are required to work at height.
